I wouldn't run a ground to the battery. You need just to pick a good spot and clean it well and put you ground close to were the most current draw is ,near your amp. I've seen people install stereo's with double #00 wire , nice and heavy for the positive and skimp on the negative. The flow of electrons in a electrical circiut goes from Negative to positive, by running a wire to the battery you risk ruining the battery due the rapid current rise and drop in the wire. Just because the amp is running at 12v the current draw does fluctuate during times of demand and this stresses the battery. A good ground equal to the postive should suffice. Sorry for the long explination
