but it could be that the design intended quadruple redundancy, or, if you prefer, 25% duty cycle per cam lobe. Might have worked, had increasing resistance at the nearby contacts not kept raising the temperature beyond the plastic's flow point. I would myself have made the stalk operate a wiping contact to supply a couple of suitable relays in parallel. This would introduce enough redundancy for me. Even more could be had if the filament monitor were asked to keep an eye on current balance between the relays.
