Auto. Transmition Problem

The auto. box of my 1996 9KT has started slipping when changing from 3rd to 4th. when cold. The problem seems to go after the box has warmed up (after 5-6 miles).
Can anyone advise me on what could be causing this? Can the problem be easily rectified without refering to a Saab dealer?
The box has only covered 68K miles and it has been serviced routinely. I performed an ATF and filter change last week - the old fluid was fine - No burnt smell, it was still clear and red and the filter was clean. The service has not cured the problem.
Thanks for your help.
TonyB
