Basically, the signal (hose) to the wastegate actuator was lost, so boost wasn't limited. You didn't overboost the engine, because there is still a fuel-cutoff switch that will kill fuel if boost goes too high.
What matters is not that the boost could go very high, it's that if you were driving with the needle buried in the red for minutes at a time. Unless you were dragging a trailer up a mountain at 90 mph, I assume your 10 minutes of driving at high speed were done with the boost needle still in the yellow. A also assume the temperature gauge didn't go into the red. So basically, you're fine. Did you stress the engine by an occasional trip into the red zone? Yes, but probably not enough to matter. Maybe you reduced the lifetime of the engine from 250K miles to 249K miles. Big deal.
As to glowing red, the turbo does glow red after high speed driving. You were at slightly below Bat-Out-Of-Hell speeds, which means pretty high exhaust temperatures, and what's more, high exhaust flow rates. That's a lot of heat. But a red glow off an exhaust component is normal, especially since you had been driving at very high speed only moments before.
So don't sweat this one. More to worry about is either the police (where do you live?), or an inattentive lane changer.
Good luck!
