Set the gap at 0.055" tonight and went for another drive. Not only was the fuel economy slightly worse than the 0.050" setting, but I'd get a pretty bad miss under high boost levels (high for me is between yellow/red or just entering red).
Further, at 0.050" gap, the car didn't seem quite as smooth, though I didn't really notice any missing. Also, it has seemed that the further I increase the gap, the shorter period max boost would be sustained. The maximum boost level has not been affected, but I'd see the APC drop boost back quicker and quicker as I opened up the gap.
So, given that I plan to get a 2.8 bar FPR in the near future, and tweak the APC to get me into red a ways, I'm going to go back to a 0.040" gap. This won't give me the max MPG, but I still should get just a few percent (max I've gotten is about 8%), and should prevent any chance of missing or rough running.
FWIW,
Aaron
