But it all depends on how you intend to use the car and what your hp goals are. If you don't intend to go above 270-280 hp, there's really no point in having an open K&N-filter. You'll be fine with the airbox mod I described above. For 300+ hp modifications, the open K&N-filter is your setup.
There is enough room in the wheel well. The setup in the picture really isn't ideal as it is too much inside the engine compartment, and therefore will give too hot air and not enough airflow.
For track days, there are quite a few who remove the left indicator for increased flow of cold air.
