Except I started with the Dunlop SP4000s, then went to the P4000 Super Touring, then the P6000 Sport Veloce. I found both the Pirellis to be nearly silent, except in the corners, when they would howl like a Banshee, LONG before anything resembling the limits of adhesion. In the dry, of course. I found the P4000ST exceptional in rain, the P6000SV just adequate as far as high performance tires go. Handling definitely better with the P6000SV, and better dry grip, but I got slightly less miles (maybe 20%) out of it compared to the P4000ST. Oh, and though both are rated as all season, or 'no-season' as some like to say, I can really only recommend the P4000ST for any snow use at all. The P6000SV is absolutely horrid in any snow or ice, the P4000ST actually can get you by in a pinch.
Now I've gone to a straight performance tire, the Kumho Ecsta 711, and lost the supreme quietude of the Pirellis, but gained gobs of dry grip, got rid of the squealing around corners, and received much better response and feel. All for about $35 less per tire (more like $25-30 with todays prices).
FWIW,
Aaron Gilbert
