Ari you are right the large hose is cracked and that would explain the slightly erratic idle. However I still think that not sucking those fumes back into my engine has to be better for it in the long run. As far as emmissions goes, I can convert it back in about 20 seconds so I'm not worried about that.

Ron, I have no idea if this will help your idle or not, I didn't do it to fix any problem with my idle I just did it because various air filter sites had talked about sucking back in the hot air with gases and I figured why suck them back in if I don't have to.

Anyway if you want to try it took about 30 seconds to do. I bought the breather from pepboys, sku# 07633314046, it is made by ac delco, regtangular and has a big white filter coming out of black plastic. The filter and plastic are of equal size. Just unplug the valve cover hose on the top left of the engine, remove the gromet, put the gromet on the breather and insert the breather into the valve cover. Then buy a 5/8 inch rubber bypass cap and put on over the tube that was in the valve cover.
