My '89 9kCDT began leaking antifreeze and fogging up the windows about 2 yrs ago. My former mechanic told me that it needed a new heater core, whch would cost about $1250! He said the cost was mostly labor as the dash had to be removed. Little did I know at that time that this is not so. It can be done in a much easier and less time consuming way by going through the firewall and should only cost about $500. So, in order to save $$$ I said I would use Gunk stop leak (the metallic powdered kind). It worked for a while until the car began to run hot at a stand still. Eventually the head gasket blew (the car still got me home though). Now, after excellent and reasonable service from Saab Service of Ornage, CT, I have a new htr core, gasket, blower motor, and alot of other new parts. I was surprised to find out their prices are MUCH lower than an actual dealer and even considerably lower than my former mechanic. I am in no way affiliated with them. I just wanted to say that if you're in CT and need work on your Saab, check them out.
