I am not certain, but on my '88, if you press "vent" and "auto" for a few seconds the unit will self diagnois and tell you the number of faults and then show the code that will identify the fault area. Another simply test would be to get another unit and plug it in and see what happens. Just remove the ash tray, reach in and up and pop the acc out. There are two actuating motors, one for the temp mixture, the other for the direction of distribution. Both could be bad. On the self diagnosis, after the indication for the number of faults, I think you must touch either vent of auto again to show the fault code. If you decide to do this and want the code identification, you could e-mail me and I will check the Saab manual for the fault description. At 1-800-241-1916, you can get a used acc for about $100 if needed.
