UK gas/petrol quality (idle comment, ignore as required)

Has anyone else noticed that the quality of petrol here in the UK has suddenly recovered? I think it took a nosedive after the "petrol crisis" (note for colonials - gas stations picketed by angry truckers, farmers etc. last September) but came back up again about two-three weeks ago. Mind you, the weather got colder too but I don't think that's why my boost gauge has perked up. Oddly, my local Sainsbury's supermarket has the best stuff... So, new question: why does the 97 (Euro measure) octane cost 15% more then the 95? In France you get 98 and it's hardly any more money.
