89 9000 cd turbo, 135k, temp gauge suddenly stopped working a couple of months ago. well, after procrastinating until today to finally take a look at it, it is now fixed. pulled off the connector at the sender to ground it to check if the gage still worked. when i pulled on the wire to stretch it out to ground it, it pulled right out of the shrink wrap! the insulation has all totally disintegrated and the wire had broken apart. a new 8" piece of wire, a new connector, and some electrical tape, and the temp gage works again. gotta love easy/cheap ones like that. i've noticed more of the wiring insulation disintegrating like that on some other wires. did saab make some bad materials choices for wiring or what? there is a major difference between wiring condition between the saab and my 89 ford ranger which has no deterioration. any comments?
