something into the starter gear and applyinh a large bar on the sockrt end. some even jam a bar into the suspension and use the starter to apply force to the bar- a good way to break an arm or face. I use a 1/2 or 3/4 Snap-On impact air driven wrench. The 1/2 will usually do it but sometimes the "biggun" is required. The Snap-On impact wrench has more inertia than most other impacters and fires faster, will usually spin off the bolt even with the plugs removed and the engine out of gear or park. BTW I use the six point Saab wrench 83 93 639. I think it is about 30 mm and it has a hex for my impact socket to fit onto the outside face. driving a socket with a socket seems to give a little more "grunt" to the wrench, probably because of the additional rebound forces. As for the torque. The preferred way is an actual torque wrench but I reinstall with impact wrench set to 125 pounds using a CALIBRATED impact tool(this will wind up to be approximately 135-145 pounds but strongly recommend 140 pounds with a 1/2 inch dial indicator torque wrench if you don't know your tools. If you use Snap-On tools, the Snap-On service man will torque set and certify your tools for life at no charge and provide certification of torques for both impact and dial or snap over torque wrenches.
