You don't need to take the Power Steering pulley of. But, You must have flexible arms. I removed my 80 amp bosch alternator and fitted a Delco 120amp to my SAAB. I had to make up another bracket to suit and it was very easy. I would recommend to anybody to fit a higher amperage alternator. The best thing about the delco unit I fitted is that it has Battery Sensing, It means an extra wire back to the battery but I now have 14.2 volts all the time. Even under High Load with every thing on.
It's fairly easy to remove the Alternator.
(1) Disconnect The Battery and Loosen off the Belt Tensioner and slip
the Belt off the Power Steering Pulley and Alternator.
(2) Remove the Front Wheel (Right Hand Side)
(3) Remove the Plastic Inner Guard. (You can now see the Alternator)
(4) Remove the Brace that goes from the Chassis to the Body.
(5) Remove the 2 Bolts holding the Alternator. The top one is a pain.
(6) Move the alternator around so you can see the wires and
disconnect them.
You should be able to remove the alternator out from the vehicle. If the insulation is rotted of from the main wire, Make sure to reinsulate it and any other wires while your at it. You don't want the Main wire going to Ground when you reconnect the Battery. (Expensive Fireworks).
