I don't have the Vifa tweeters in the front of my car now, alas. I have some pretty decent Nakamichi soft dome units that I picked up at a deal from a friend at work. I do recall that I designed the 2nd order crossover (12 db/octave) to be at approximately 3 kHz. I should get off my butt and order the Vifa units before they go off special, and drop those in. I have some other stuff to do under the dash anyhow.
As to the Hovland Music caps, I too have heard they are the best, but WELL into the area of diminishing returns. I like the most bang for the buck, so I stick with Solen components, or if I am on a really tight budget, any mylar/polypropylene type with a sufficient voltage rating and tolerance.
And in a car, I seriously doubt anyone will be able to tell the difference between a crossover using Hovland vs. Solen capacitors, especially if it's moving! At home even, in a properly set up listning room (which few people have), I think the differences would be subtle, IMHO.
Regards,
Aaron
