Hydraulic pump vs vacuum booster

The brake pump on my 88 9kt died (thanks aero guy for the check procedure)
Dealer says over a grand for a new pump (they've only seen two go bad in over 12 years, hmmm). Question 1) would a used pump be the way to go, or 2)can a complete new master w/vacuum booster (under $200 )from a non-ABS car be swapped in? Do both systems use the same lines? TIA
