Thanks for the thoughts/ideas guys. Maybe I had the fuel additives thing backwards. I thought they put them in, in the summer to help with air pollution.
I just put new plugs in at the 35k service, which was only 8k miles ago. The gap was according to spec. I suppose the DI could be going bad already, but it seems a bit early at only 43k mi. Doesn’t that also seem a little earlly for the O2 sensor to go? Other poster's mentioned tire pressures and oil. I ran a couple pounds more pressure in the tires for the trip, and switched from Dino to Mobil 1 at the 35k service.
In any case, I'll check the mileage again soon, as I'm headed back to Illinois from California. Won't be too accurate until I get out of the mountains and on the plains, but I'll let you know. I'm also driving to Sun N Fun in Florida the first week of April, so that will give me another chance to check mileage on flat ground. I wonder which month they start with the reformulated fuel?
It's and interesting problem. Sure wish I could get back up to 30 mpg as I'm going to be putting a lot of miles on.
Regards,
Captain Eddie Bob
