... many years ago, but not on a Saab. I was screaming up to a 90 degree bend, hit the brake, there was a bang and the pedal went most of the way to the floor. Thank goodness for dual-circuit brakes! I managed to slow down just enough to make the bend.
I had the pads replaced (too far from home to do it myself) and asked for the old pads, which were still quite new. On examination, the friction lining on one had gone completely. The others were showing signs of cracking around the edges. I took them back to where I had bought them from and got a refund. I think they were glad I settled for that.
