Rear Mount- Does it need a "U" bracket?

I just replaced the lower motor mounts on my 2.0L '90T and noticed that the (old) rear mount did not have a "U" bracket bolted on the mount like the front (right) mount. I also noticed that the rear mount flattens like a pancake compared to the front mount. Does the rear mount need a bracket to limit travel?
There are some good write-ups on replacing mounts on Quasi's site and Townsend site, but here's one more tip on replacing the rear mount on a 2.0L engine: BEFORE you bolt on the rear mount, insert the bracket that you removed from the back of the engine onto the mount stud. You will have to angle the mount to get the bracket to go onto the stud. Then bolt the mount on and tighten the nut on the stud before trying to bolt the bracket back on the engine- it will help align the bracket to the bolt holes on the engine.
