After about 4 years of ownership (from new) and about 35,000 km (from nil)in mileage, I found my car a little sluggish than before in acceleration especially at low road speed.
I thought the problem must be the ignition, fuel injection, boost pressure and turbocharger, etc. However, after inspection, the dealer said that having taken into account the model year and mileage, they believed the auto transmission gearshift spring kit was faulty. I was initially very suspicious as the gearshift was smooth and shift so how could the kit be at fault?
I however trusted the dealer and paid HK$2,336.00 (US$300.00) in labour for replacing the kit (including oil pan gasket), HK$398.72 (US$52.00)in part for the kit itself and HK$405.68 (US$52.00) in parts for the sundries such as oil pan gasket and O ring, etc. That was back in April, 1999.
After the work, the acceleration resumed to what it used to be. However, on the assumption that the dealer is honest and competent and did in fact replace the kit, I still do not understand how could a gearshift spring kit be at fault if the gearshift was smooth and swift. I have discussed the matter with a few indies with experience in Saabs and they are as puzzled as me upon being told that the problem lied with the kit.
