superflex bushings update -- long Posted by adam [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have installed 1/2 of the bushing I have and thought I'd let you in on my results.
1) I installed the rear swaybar bushings first. They fit perfectly and the install was simple. I noticed no improvement in handling from just this upgrade.
2) A week later or so I did the front swaybar and eye link. The lower eyelink bushings fit perfectly, the upper is no longer being sold because apparently it doesn't fit. The swaybar hold down, I don't know what else to call them, the ones that look identical to the rear, they fit almost perfectly. Their total outside diameter was a little larger than the stock rubber, but once the bolts were tightened they looked perfect.
I perceived a slightly tighter steering feel, but I'm not sure if this was real or just hopeful thinking
3) About a week after those I did the front rear wishbone bushing. These I had to have pressed which cost me an extra $15. They fit perfectly. When reinstalling remember that these are unidirectinal bushings the thicker, tapered end must point to the front of the car for the bolt holes to line up. Go ahead ask how I know this one. :)
These had a huge impact on steering feel and brake feel. The steering is significantly tighter with a lot less "slop" then before. The brakes feels more positive. During everyday <75 mph driving the increase in vibrations is minimal, however it is noticable. At >75 mph and expecially around 90-95 the vibrations are significant. The whole car really isn't vibrating that much, but the steering wheel is. I used to know I was doing 90 by the sudden wind noise, now I can tell by the steering wheel vibrations.
I am wondering if solid rubber bushings would be better for the front rear wishbone. The ones I took off weren't solid, instead they were a sleeve within a sleeve connected on one side but open on the other. I can see how this allows excessive movement and I'm wondering if solid rubber would tighten up steering but also not cause as much vibration at high speed.
I still have the steering, rear trailing arms, and possibly the engine mounts. I'll keep everyone up to date as I do it.
I was wondering if anyone had replaced the rubber bushings in the shift coupler with polyurethane

their universal 200 are circular bushings, but I have no idea what size the coupler bushings are. Would like to try if someone can provide size info.
