There just isn't anything else that could go wrong in that area, which causes the wheel to heat up, besides the brakes.
I've had bad calipers two cars so far, and for some reason, though only one side went bad at any given time, I never noticed any pulling.
It could be intermittant, as Cameron suggests. However, I think once they start sticking at all, it's time to rebuild/replace them. Brakes are not the place to economize.. (except getting OE parts mail order and doing the work yourself) So far, my fronts are OK, but I've had to replace both rear calipers. I may just have the fronts done as a precautionary measure, myself. Plus, they look absolutely hideous compared to the shiny new rears. :)
