Saabre
there has been a thread over the last few days on chain noise. I've pasted my post for that one here:
-----------------------
My balance and timing chains (inc tensioners, guides and sprockets) were done by Howe Engineering, Herts at 138,500 miles. Althought the work can be done through the wheel arch they always take the engine out on a 2.3 litre engine. In their experience it is quicker and more reliable in the long run, especially if you discover other problems while you are in there.
-------------------------
It depends on what workshop facilities you have available. My normal mobile mechanic (very experinced) was initially going to tackle the job, but he hadn't done Saab balance chain work and was wary about doing it through the wheel arch. In the end I took it to a SAAB indy as I wanted the apc system checked out at the same time. There have been some posts on this BB which have described tackling the job through the wheel arch and in retrospect wished they hasd taken the engine out.
Let us know how you get on.
