Add CD to 89 9000, get new front speakers. FM CD changer?

I have the old original Clarion cassette deck in it. I was wanting to put in a FM CD changer so I could keep the original deck. But will this actually sound decent? I ask this because of both the old deck and running the CD's through the radio. Anyone else done this? Does a FM changer sound good? Will my deck have enough gusto and sound quality for this to be a good idea? Or should I just but a aftermarked CD deck for it and scrap the old cassette deck. I wanted to keep it so I could use cassettes and the equalizer. Also, If I used CD changer, I'd like to mount it in the front. Can I run a wire all the way back to the trunk and to the antenna for this purpose?
Also, my reception isn't the best (car doesn't pick up stations as well as other cars will), will this affect the quality of the FM cd changer sound?
If I was to get an aftermarket deck will I need to jack around with the wiring harness? Also, will the equalizer still work? And, has anyone done this? Does it look wierd to have the aftermarket deck in there?
On top of this, my front speakers are bad. Any ideas on new ones? If I understand correctly, it has 2 4incher mids and 2 2in tweeters. Is that right? Should I go for the same thing? What about impedence and Watts?
Thanks a lot guys, I'm by no means an expert about the audio.
