There is a ground behind the dashboard on the driver's side for the dash lights and turn signals. To get to it, remove the speaker grill on the driver's side( two torx screws visibile when you open the door, some sliding and prying required.) I would assume that is where your problem lies.
Do yourself a BIG favor, and buy the electrical manual for an '86 9000. Saab sells the manuals in sections - electrical, or brakes, or tranny. Within each section there are different manuals for different years. So the '86 electrical manual is a different book than the '87-88 manual. Go to your Saab dealer, or call some of the mail-order Saab dealers, and buy the manual. It shows the locations for EVERYTHING that even gets close to an electron in the car.
Good luck!
