I have the 2.0l motor with 255k though. I'm not totally sure that it's the same in your car, but on mine, the lifters can be replaced without even taking off the head. I don't know how much they actually cost, but as far as labor involved, it doesn't sound too bad. I'd guess significantly cheaper than a head gasket. Again though, I'm not sure how much if this applies to the 2.3l engine..
