Of course the BEST option is to get the E-spec headlights, rewire the lights with an upgraded harness (I'd do that even with the stock lights, though, so full current no longer runs through the dimmer switch), and throw in some 55/100w, 80/100w, or 90/130w H4 bulbs. 100w high is pretty good, though I still would like more. :)

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT install higher wattage 9004 bulbs though! They will do little good with the poor optics of the DOT lights, and the bulbs housings may melt, the terminals may also be damaged, and worse, the dimmer switch will likely also be damaged. Anyhoo..

My problem with putting lights above the bumper hasn't been so much of a mounting issue, as where to put them without obstructing either a) airflow through the condenser/intercooler/radiator, or b) the headlights. I don't like either option. However, it's conceivable that somewhere out there are some killer performing driving/long range lights with a diameter of only a few inches, as opposed to the 6-7" that most great lights are.

I've been eyeing some KC long range 5" lights, which look great and aren't too huge, but still, that's 10" of interference in front.

You can mount driving lights under the bumper, and achieve decent results, though it's certainly true that they perform better above the bumper. If you don't mind loosing the foglights, and don't want to obstruct the airflow/headlights, this is the only option I see (short of cutting a hole in the actual bumper to put the lights in - now that would be interesting!)

I at one point had a set of full size fogs AND full size driving lights (both rectangular) mounted under the bumper. Now I wish I had take some pictures of that setup, it was truly menacing. Unfortunately, due to the size and creative mounting method I had to come up with, it didn't allow me to adjust the driving lights properly..
