I'm not positive in this case, but in many instances with electrical wiring the black is hot and the white is neutral. Although automotive wiring is usually coded with many colors with ground often being green. When I did this about 6 weeks ago, Tom Townsend's note said white to white and black to black and that's what I did, without differentiating between the two whites. I have been very curious about these two white wires and whether they should be matched. If anyone knows???
There was also some discussion here about soldering and connectors. I was told somewhere (can't remember exactly now) that the wires should be soldered. It was brought up on the board that connectors should be used instead. Solder is apparently fairly brittle and the wires should be mechanically restrained to keep the joint from falling apart.
