Dave, get the idea that a used 9k can be a problem?

They can if you don't have the car checked out. I would take it to an independant mechanic who really knows Saabs and have him give it a thorough inspection. It is well worth the $150 or so you will spend. If the car checks out well and you can knock a grand or two off of the price, you will have a great driving machine.
It really is worth doing as much of the mechanical work as you can yourself. Regular oil changes, antifreeze every two years, maybe radiator hoses at 100k, you can do yourself and save big bucks for when the DI or another expensive part goes out. Also want to use Bar's Leak (silver bottle) in the radiator as the heater core tends to leak.
Speaking of leaking heater core, there was a recall on the airbag for this car, and if it has not been done yet, and there is any evidence of leaking core, I'm told they will replace it for free while doing the recall.
The auto tranny seems to be good for about 100k on average, with some folks getting much more, some less. About $4000 to replace.
Keep reading this board to solve other problems.
I'm on my 4th Saab, 2nd 9k. They have all been great cars, and I have spent considerably less on repairs than most other car owners, with the exception of the Toyotas and Mazdas of the world. They are a real pleasure to drive and own. But they are more complex than the basic Japanese cars and will have more breakdowns. Reasonable part prices are available through sponsors of this site, and a bit of self wrenching will go a very long way toward keeping you costs very reasonable.
