it is compressed by that large washer when torquing it down. The tighter you get it the more the bushing is compressed on its ends and the larger it gets in diameter. In my opinion the bushing doesn't spin and putting a larger torque on it only makes the joint tighter. I'm sorry but forgot to mention its ~ 40+ ft/lbs. The point being for the thread I mentioned you read is that the torque won't make a difference +- 5 ft/lbs and also that 40 is a lot on a 8 inch long open ended wrench. Do the experiment I did and approximate how hard you have to push your 8 inch long wrench. My haynes manual has both metric and us spec torque measurements doesn't yours? You can also find shareware conversion software to go back and forth from the different measurement standards. I will look up the ball joint torque tonight if you still need them. I didn't torque them just did them all very "tight".
