I am trying to replace the factory installed radio / cassette player in my 1997 Saab 9000 CS with a Sony in dash mini disc player which has an integrated amp in the head unit. I pulled the factory unit and the car wiring harness has an 8 female pin rectangular connector and a 10 female pin rectangular connector that mate with the male pins on the back of my original factory radio / cassette player.
In my car Saab used a separately located power amp mounted under the front passenger seat to drive the factory head unit . I tried "pinging" the preamp out wires at the in dash connector with an AA battery. There was no response from any of the speakers so I believe that confirms they are connected to the amp rather than the speakers.
Do I have to pull the passenger seat out and bypass the Saab amp by connecting the old preamp out / amp in wires directly to the amp out / speaker wires?? Am I going down the wrong path here? Is there an easier way?
