I used Crutchfield harness adapter 12070-1739 in both my 91 and 93 9000 and it worked fine. I suspect 97 is the same as the 93.

Here is what you do:

1. Use the special tool to remove the old radio.

2. Remove the metal sleeve the radio fits into.

3. Unplug the wiring harnesses that connects the metal sleeve to the wires coming out of the dash.

4. Connect the following wires from the back of the new radio to the Crutchfield wiring harness: Red power, Yellow power, Blue antenna, Black ground, Orange or Orange/White illumination. And the FRONT speaker wires.

5. Take 2 pieces of speaker wire about 4 feet long (go longer so you can cut the extra rather than ending up short). Connect that speaker wire to the rear speaker leads on the back of the NEW RADIO (not a harness). Now connect the Crutchfield wiring harness (now attached to your radio) to the wires in the dash and install the radio.

6. Now it is time to run the rear speaker wires. I think the best way to do this is to go under the center console. You might be able to do it without removing the console, but here's my way. Take out the plastic bins in the console under the radio. Also remove the plastic piece below the shift lever. There is one screw covered by a plastic cap, once that screw is removed, you can pull the plastic piece up and out of the way.

7. Remove the center console between the seats. This is easy to do. There are 2 10mm head bolts in the lower rear of the console covered by carpet flaps. There are 2 torx screws at the lower front (on the sides) which are covered by plastic caps. Once these 4 fasteners are out, the console lifts up and out. Oh yeah, I forgot the thing around the e-brake. There could also be a couple of screws under the shift lever cover, but I don't think so.

8. Push the passenger seat all the way back. Run the wires down by the console and slip them under the carpet at the front area below the passenger seat.

9. Push the passenger seat all the way forward. Move the seat back forward also.

10. Crane your neck and you are looking at the amp. I believe that is says Clarion right on it. Make sure you have correctly identified the amp before doing anything else. There is a black plastic DIN connector going in, and four wires coming out. The four wires are the rear speaker wires.

11. Cut the rear speaker wires coming out of the amp. Connect the speaker wires you ran from the new radio to the speaker wires heading to the back of the car. On my 93: blue/white=rr-, red/white=rr+, green/white=lr-, brown/white=lr+

9. Put it back together and you are done. This is not as hard as it sounds at all. You will get a stiff neck working under the passenger seat unless you remove the seat, which you don't have to do, but makes it less painful.
