hypothesis with a known good unit. The problem here is that TCS situations are often intermittent, because they are sometimes caused by bad connections.

One of the BB's best TCS Quotes is that of Fred Hanrahan, who said his mechanic told him that the car would have to be completely submerged for that computer to fail. Also, the SAAB TCS Service Bulletins all warn against replacing major parts. Yet, we have one TCS post where it did fail.

Here is a list of steps to do before anything expensive:

1. Have all the connections on Aero Guys' list been cleaned? Easy DIY if you can identify the components. Subscribing to AllData ($30.00 a year) is helpful here.

2. Has the TCS Bleeder Valve been replaced? $80.00. You should have one on the shelf anyway. Easy DIY.

3. Have you replaced your vacuum lines? $60.00 for 10 feet of 8mm and 30 feet of 4 mm from hose techniques. The original vacuum lines on my '93 were crumbling in my fingers. This replacement is good preventive maintenance. Easy DIY.

It might be the computer, but if you pay for it and it's not, you are back where you started from. The above work is good to do on the car anyway, and it might solve the problem. As the SAAB TCS Service Bulletin says, do the basic checks before replacing major parts.
