remember "offset" is the difference between the geometric center of the rim where the tire fits and the flange of the rim where it bolts to the hub. Where I get all bumfuzzled is when it comes to + and - offset but it would seem that Positive means the tire/wheel rides further out from the face of the hub and reverse for negative ie the wheels are tucked closer together. I sure don't profess to be a wheel specialist, so take this with some salt.
BTW, I got a great set of wheels from Saab City,London, during their anniversary blitz,- Fitipaldi 17s with a 32 mm offset and adapter spacers to fit Saab hubs. Currently running oversize tires 235-45-17 with no problems. standard size is 225s.
