It's really hard to say whether $2500 is a good deal. If you check the FAQ about buying a new 9000 and look at the statistics, you'll see a wide range of possible faults and the percentage of owners who have reported them.

I paid $3000 for an 88 9000T 5 sp manual with a few more miles than the one you're looking at. The dealer put new tires on and replaced the blower (I should have had him replace the heater core as well), and though I didn't get the _best_ price, I don't feel ripped off.

My car had one previous owner who had it serviced at B&B Saab in Santa Clara. All the hoses are in excellent shape, no oil consumption since I started driving it 2 months ago, and no regrets.

The flip side is that there was another Saab (a more recent 900T) in the lot. It was going for $6000, I think, but it was leaking oil very badly. The used car dealer I talked to wouldn't even let me _look_ at it because he wanted to have it fixed up first!

Anyway, although I didn't do it, I would strongly suggest taking the car to a Saab dealer/mechanic and have it looked over. Most problems are cosmetic and even the hunting/seeking probelm on a manual isn't that big a deal, but a clutch job is a little under $1000 and fixing a broken engine mount is whatever it is, and replacing the blower motor/heater core will probably run you over $500.

My last piece of advice is make sure you can live without the turbo, I mean, Saab essentially _pioneered_ the turbo for production cars!

Skrunch.
