I have a 1986 9000 Turbo manual transmission with a big problem. The big part is that it’s been to a couple mechanics and none of them know what’s wrong. About a two months ago, I had the clutch replaced. About two weeks later it spit the left inner CV joint out of the cup. Totally out, as in the axle was flopping around inside the wheel well. When it came out it banged the joint cup (cup? [the part that goes into the transmission]) so badly it couldn’t be used. I took it to a mechanic who told me that the joint just failed. So I had it replaced. The day after it was repaired, the same thing happened. I then had it towed back to the same shop. After they didn’t know what was wrong, I took it to an all SAAB shop (which I should have done in the first place). They said the motor mounts were totally broken. The guy there showed me too. He put the car into first with the emergency brake on. The whole engine moved about six inches when he tried to go forward, which caused the joint to pull apart. So they replaced all the motor mounts and the stay bar bushings. I drove it for about three days when I went around a right hand turn while accelerating. It didn’t entirely brake this time, but it did chuck one of the rollers out of the inner CV joint, breaking the boot. I took it back. They then looked at the A-arm and bushings. The bushing did allow too much play, so they replaced it. But the inner CV joint was still sitting on the outer rim of the cup, barely in. The A-arm was also bent, indicating that someone had tried towing the car by the a-arm. But the arm was bent up, which would cause the joint to be farther into the cup, not on the edge of it. I just gave them another A-arm today. I was wondering if anyone else out there might have any idea as to what me be causing this problem, the shop guys said that they are running out of ideas. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
