After listening to a clunk in my front right I did the job myself. I think I paid around $120 for a remanufactured unit that included new CV joint (outer) and inner tripod joint. The only things that were tricky for me was getting the lower strut mount re-aligned so that I could get the bolts back through and getting the hub to release from the outer axle splines. To do the strut just took some strategic levering, the hub on the passenger side required a three arm puller to free it from the slines (no big deal, just $45 at Sears). The hub on the driver side came right off with just a couple of taps from a rubber mallet.
The job was easy enough that when I found that the other side had a cracked boot, I just went ahead and installed a rebuild unit there. Total time for me was around 10hours...but I work really slow, re-read the book four times, scratch a lot, have a beer and talk to the neighbors.
