I recently did this on a 1993 cs with the naturally aspirated engine. The intake manifold is the 2 piece U shaped type. I could not get between the side of the intake manifold and the upper engine mount to get any kind of extension down to the starter motor. Also, the view from below was totally obstructed by the catalytic converter.
I ended up just taking out the intake manifold and the job was fairly easy, if long. The tough part was getting the intake manifold back in due to one hard to access nut.
