1. Move the shifter back to 1st gear. Using a Torx bit ( the SAAB toolkit works here), remove the 2 Torx fasteners on the forward face of the shift lever.2 Now pull the shifter handle straight up and off the mechanism. 3. Using a fine blade, remove the small round plug directly in front of the shifter and then remove the Torx screw underneath it. Now you can wiggle the plastic plate up and off the center console a few inches. You have to shift into neutral to remove the cover .Feel around for the light socket ( follow the thin wires to it) and pop it out with a sideward motion. The bulb pops out of the socket. Good luck, I was nervous doing this the first time, but once you begin you'll find that everything goes pretty smoothly apart and then together again.
