The thermostat is right where it appears to be, at the end of the upper hose. Getting to it is a pain in the rear. Also, make sure you have a 12mm wrench, the shorter the better.

You can get to it by removing the hoses attached to the throttle body and pushing them out of the way. Then there are a couple of 10mm bolts holding a bracket onto the the thermostat housing, and three 12mm bolts holding the thermostat housing onto the engine. If I had to do it again, I would remove the throttle body for easier access to the thermostat housing bolts. The throttle body is held on by 3 bolts and you will have already removed all the stuff attached to the throttle body.

Now, the "Learn from My Experience Department": I have done this on both of my 9000s and had leaks both times (they both went within a few weeks of each other and I had done both once before figuring it out - and doing them both again). The thermostat requires a rubber ring which is referred to as a gasket. I bought another type of gasket to fit between the two halves of the thermostat housing. It was a thin adhesive backed gasket which melts and seals the thermostat housing together. I also used blue silicon around the outer edges of the thermostat housing. Now there are no leaks.
