Go to a plumbing shop and use a large pipe cutter or if you are careful use a hack saw!!!!!!!! Cut just the top 1/8 to 1/4 inch off- clean out well and drill a hole in the bottom of the tubre to retain the cartridge then slip in the cartridges.
The "S" chassis has larger wire springs and a little lower ride height but mainly a 21 mm roll bar,and heavy, read stiffer, dampers with higher pressure gas pressure by Sachs and 205X50x16 tires and aero sport wheels. BTW don't try to fit 55 series tires on this car you will be sorry! just a warning!
On the gap do you know if your dealer regapped or installed -11 plugs? if so I would regap to .8-.9 mm much easier on the DI and will idle smoother. As for mileage on DIs I have several running well over 200K miles because they maintained their plugs correctly and frequently. I figure at less than 7 dollars a set, I can change frequently when the alternative is a 300 dollar DI! Then DI is no mystery if plugs are maintained and not allowed to gap too large- the heat kills them when they must fire against the high BMEP of the turbos - Big Time early failures! Corrosion at the DI connectors also raises the poisibility of misfire due to voltage drop across the connector. The S chassis isn't like the Pooch at all, just a better handling Saab.
