Thanks, AG. It would be great if you could measure the front spring if you get the chance. I could do the diameter (and number of coils maybe) myself, but not the free length without taking it out (and it might not match a new one anyway). Specs for some stiffer front springs would also be welcome once we know more about mine.
If the previous owner (Saab Contract Hire Ltd.) ordered a sunroof, they were ripped off. Otherwise, the equipment spec. is spot on! Does the spring go with the equipment level due to the weight of equipment - just curious?
Would the three rear springs you mention give the same ride height as mine? I assume they have different numbers of turns, otherwise the red/blue looks like it would probably ride rather higher than the yellow/green for the same weight.
Was the red/white used as standard on any 9000? How harsh is harsh? I like the 9000 ride and am willing to compromise a bit. My benchmark is a ('99, I think) Mercedes E-class with sports suspension pack that I rode in a number of times, but have never driven. It felt very firm and I can imagine it handling really well when pushed, but it was a chauffeur-driven car that couldn't afford to be the slightest bit uncomfortable (and it wasn't).
Also (so many questions) if I fitted adjustable shocks (Koni), do you think these would be adjustable enough to suit any spring within the range we are discussing? Suspension tuning is not something I've tried before, but I have a reasonable grasp of dynamics and I'm willing to learn and experiment, as long as I know that what I buy is capable of giving decent results once I figure out how to set it up. Having an engineering mind, though, I'll be happiest if I can figure out an objective way of measuring the effects of what I'm doing.
One final question that you don't have to answer, but I can't help wondering: are you a Saab dealer? I'm conscious that you must spend a huge amount of your time answering silly questions like mine and am really grateful (as, I am sure, are many others). I know this isn't the only on-line forum you participate in. It is good to be able to tap the knowledge of someone who really understands cars, and the 9000 in particular.
P.S. A friend who works in London also recommends Waga Mama's, so I think a visit is in order, along with a stop for some Bagels on the way, of course!
