You are trying to make life difficult for no particular purpose. 1) will take 5-6 cycles to come anywhere near the effectiveness of a flush and 2) is simply ridiculous, you don't remove the thermostat to flush coolant. Thermostat replacement is much more involved than a simple coolant flush.
Cut the heater hose and install a capped plastic tee with hose clamps. Prestone makes a $5 kit that will never leak or fail. I agree with townsend that the best place to cut the heater hose is after the heater core, even if it is a bit harder to get to.
