I agree that they get mushed, but I still use my 2 1/4 floor jack on 'em, and I've mashed 'em to hell. The car jack still works fine though for roadside use, at least i didn't have any troubles. Makes me itchy to jack a unibody car up in anything but the recommended spots.
Speaking of which, having special jacking points on the car and a special jack that fits right in are clever ideas. Only one problem; the jack that fits the jacking spots is a POS relative to what most of us probably use.
Wish they had just put a nice sturdy 'pod' or something that any ol' floor jack will fit or have a secure place to jack on.
one OTHER thing while thinking about jacking up cars. I think one of the best demonstrations of (at least the OG 9K's) chassis rigidity, is when I jack one of my cars up from the front and the whole car lifts up, rear wheel and all. You can open a door and notice that it opens and closes without too much distortion of the car.
Other cars I've tried this on, the car flexes so much torsionally that the rear wheel stays planted, and if you can even get a door open, it probably won't close until the car comes back down on the ground.
