A voltmeter will not help you. You need an ampere meter to measure current flow. Typically, there will always be some current flowing for the clock, alarm. They do not use very big current (amperes) (and the amp meter may not detect their flow) so any significant reading would give cause for suspicion. Are you sure the trunk interior light is off? How old is the battery & how often have the liquid levels been checked? I say this because you may simply have an old, weak battery.
