Friends,
This maybe "The Emporer's New Disclosure" for its triviality, but I've discovered a slight problem with the way my remote operates, and there is an uninted consequence to security because of it.
It appears that my setup can be a little confused by the position of the driver's side door locking knob (hereafter: "d-side lock").
If the D-side lock is UNLOCKED, the Locking ECU will ignore all further UNLOCK inputs. When LOCKED, the ECU ignores all LOCK inputs.
Small complaint for the convenience, but I'm going for full-disclosure here.
It means that you have to cycle the locking system according to the state of the d-side lock.
For example, 3 doors locked, d-side unlocked, and you want to unlock the whole system (say, for a gas stop): Step 1: LOCK the entire system, step 2: Unlock the entire system. This is a small problem.
EG #2: d-side locked, the rest open, and you want to lock the system: Step 1: unlock the system (thus unlocking the d-side door) then step 2: lock the system.
*****THIS IS A POTENTIAL SECURITY RISK!!!*******
You must increase your vulnerability to improve your security. I know, we're talking about less than a second of time UNLOCK-LOCK, but how many "Friday the 13th" plots center around this kind of thing?!!!
*****
For those who desire a clear conscience in this project (For example: installing remote locking for someone else) you should SERIOUSLY investigate my addendum regarding the installation of the d-side motor ON TOP OF the d-side original-equipment switch. There is a missing step in my description of this, in how to prevent the system from oscillating, and I'll be happy to continue this thread with anyone so interested to solve it.
ANyway, this "problem" appeared, and I wanted to be sure the audience knew about it, as well as the unintended consequence.
