In Euro-language, it's called a Lambda sensor, so you might want

to search on that.

But searches not withstanding, disconnect the battery and jack up the front end. Crawl underneath. Right before the exhaust pipe meets the catalytic converter, you will see an object screwed into the pipe with three wires running up into the engine compartment. That's the sensor. There may be wire tie or bracket holding the wires to something that doesn't get hot. Loosen that. Once you know where it is if you look down from the engine compartment, you'll be able to feel back until you find the connectors.

Now, use the special socket I told you about before (when you buy the sensor, the guy should ask you if you need the socket) to get the old sensor off the exhaust pipe. Pull it back up through the engine compartment so you can see the whole assembly and how it's connected. The new sensor should have instructions on how to wire the new sensor to the old leads. The actual Saab OE sensor (big bucks) will come with new connectors and you don't have to worry about it.

Once you've got the new one re-wired, feed it back down through the engine compartment. Make sure you don't bang around the internal part of the sensor. It should come with a plastic cap over it. Make sure to remove that before inserting it into the pipe. Get back underneath with your socket. Rotate the sensor about three revolutions counter clockwise making sure not to bend the wires to compensate for the rotations you'll do tightening it.

Insert the sensor (after removing the plastic cap) and hand tighten. Then use your socket to tighten to about 40 foot pounds torque. make sure the wires aren't near anything that gets hot by tying or bracketing them back where they were. Sounds complicated. It's not. I'm being very specific because you said you're a novice. It's all pretty straight forward.

Or, pay an extra $50-$75 and have any shop do it. Either way, injector cleaner may help for awhile, but you'll eventually have to do this.

Good Luck,

Skippy
