Having said that, I went to 55's a few thousand miles ago on my 91 9kT, and have no regrets.
With the 50's that were on the car when I acquired it in May, 1991, the ride was quite harsh and noisy. This might have had to do with the brand of tire, but... Handling was like a street-fighter...grrr!
I went for Kumho Exta in the 55 series, and am much happier all around. Quieter, less harsh (but not Impala territory, because this is a 91), but alas somewhat less good-looking. There is some occasional scrub on the wheel-well liner, but you are likely experiencing that now if your car is wearing 55's.
You can start another chorus about which are the best tires for this car, but one piece of it will be that there is a broader variety of options available in the 55's than in the 50's.
Good luck!
