I would go with two possiblities - bad battery cables, or a bad battery. Remove and clean the battery clamps and posts - the inside of the clamps, and the outside of the posts. Next, pick up a cheap Specific Gravity battery tester at an autoparts store. This is just a clear plastic dohickey with a squeeze bulb on it. You stick the hose into a cell, and use the squeeze bulb to fill the body with battery acid. An indicator shows the state of charge for that cell. Repeat for each cell.
As Aaron says, if you've been driving around, the battery should be fully charged. But batteries can die in such a way that they can't produce any current. You may have that problem.
I doubt you have an alternator problem - you'd see an alternator light, assuming it's working (turn the car to ON, but don't start - you should see a battery light). But if the alternator wasn't working, the car would have quit by now (the It's Not Dead Yet school of testing).
