Just curious...what exactly is a "clear taillight"? I assume that this is just a replacement plastic lens for the turn signal light (and not the brake light) that happens to be clear instead of orange, thus making the turn signal light be whitish rather than orange, yes? If so, back in the 60s and 70s I remember noting that Japanese and European cars tended to have orange signal lights and I thought that was a better, more innovative color scheme than US cars because you could distinguish the message based on color. US cars then had red signal lights...indistinguishable from brake lights. So to me, moving from orange signal lights to red would be a step backwards to the old Detroit color code; moving to white would also be a step backwards (because of color conflict with the backup light).

What might be an interesting upgrade though, in future, is LED lights---red for brake, orange for turn, white for backup. This would presage the mass replacement of the electric light bulb with LEDs which is expected to occur over the next 100 years or less.

As for air filters, I understand that the ideal is to have a K&N (or other non-stock) filter, but still position it substantially in the stock location, drawing air from there rather than the engine bay. Given this ideal---which means ruling out an open K&N filter in the engine bay---what is still not clear to me is:

1) How the remaining approaches compare:
a) stock filter with stock housing
b) stock filter with modified housing
c) K&N drop-in filter with stock housing
d) K&N drop-in filter with modified housing
e) K&N open filter
For example, could it be that (d) or maybe even just (b) gets you 80% of the way there?

2) Does (e) mean that the filter is totally "exposed" inside the well, i.e., the housing is essentially eliminated? Or would it still be inside a modified housing of some sort?

For those that modified the housing (by boring holes and/or removing or reconfiguring the elephant trunk), it isn't clear to me whether they are using open K&N filters (which I understand are cone-shaped) or drop-in K&N filters. By "drop-in" I mean same shape and dimensions as the stock filter.
